A previously unrecorded example of Smart's well known figure the Postman from Frant known as "Old Bright". Typical of a signature work by Smart, this example is fashioned from collaged pieces of fabric laid on paper with a hand painted watercolour landscape beyond. A significant work of British Folk Art by one of the few known and identifiable makers from the British tradition, as exhibited at the British Folk art Exhibition at Tate Modern in the Summer of 2014.
