Important Clock Josef Hoffmann Wiener Werkstätte 1903

Important Clock model no. M 0005 Josef Hoffmann Wiener Werkstätte 1903

13.3" x 13" x 10.5"

description

According to the WW archive, the clock was only produced twice in 1903, the year the Wiener Werkstätte was founded: For Dr. Spitzer, Steinfeldgasse 4 and for F. Kohn, Elisabethstraße 8.

This clock is one of the few large and iconic objects made in the year WW was founded that can be purchased again. Two examples of this clock were made, one in silver-plated copper and the other in patinated copper. Both clocks were sold to wealthy Viennese personalities who were very close to Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte. The Alpacca clock went to the Kohn family, while the clock we are offering went to the Spitzer family, for whom Hoffmann had already designed and furnished a house in the villa colony on the Hohe Warte in 1900.
