An early work by the artist, Double Bones explores Rothenberg's favorite motif of a spectral horse placed against a heavily worked background. Limited to black and white, the screaming horse has a visceral power recalling prehistoric cave paintings. Widely exhibited, the painting formerly belonged to the collector Emily Fisher Landau.
