A large and vivid view looking southwards from Kowloon, painted with a degree of detail and precision that is seldom found in paintings of Hong Kong.
The view extends from North Point to Western District and the Lamma channel beyond
In the harbour a variety of vessels can be seen: British, French and Spanish sailing vessels appear, together with a sail-steamer and a paddlesteamer seen stern-on. A Tanka boat and numerous junks make their way between the larger vessels.
Landmarks include Flagstaff House, City Hall, Murray Barracks, St John’s Cathedral, Government House, and the Roman Catholic Cathedral with its twin towers; the signalling station can be seen on the Peak above.
